Brown Gaining Valuable Experience

Southern Miss went through another Tuesday physical practice as they still look to notch that first win of the season. GoldenEaglePride.com talked with offensive tackle Vincent Brown after practice Tuesday, and he filled us in on the mood of the team and how he is taking advantage of the opportunity he has here at the end of the season to earn playing time for the future.

Vincent Brown started at offensive tackle for the Eagles against Rice, and played almost every snap. The opportunity for the junior to gain this experience has been one he is very thankful for.

"I hate to say I'm playing for next season, but I feel like I am in many ways," he said after practice Tuesday.

"I've been given an opportunity to start at tackle and play and get ready for next season. I'm thankful for the chance to get real playing time and game experience. I know it will make me a much better player down the road."

Brown said that the team is still going to play the season out hard despite the struggles up to this point.

"Its been hard on everyone," he said. "We are not used to losing. But, we are not going to just fall over. We know we have to just keep on fighting, man.

"Joe, Jason, and Austin and some of those seniors deserve to go out well, and they have taught me so much. The coaches deserve my best effort too. You won't see any quit from me, and I think we are going to turn this program around."

Brown said that the last few games ought to be a chance for the players to have some fun and try to finish well.

"You know, we owe UAB something too," he said. "They've beat us three years in a row, and we have to just start flying around and play the way we know we can.

"Our defense hits us pretty good in practice and helps our line get ready for the season. We are ready to go out there and compete on Saturday." The Eagles, 0-8, hope to get out of the rut and beat a team that has had their number lately. The Blazers, regardless of records, have given the Eagles some bad losses in the last few years.
